About Me

I arrived in Metlakatla on Friday, August 19th.  I've got a lot to learn about island life and hope you will share some tips and tricks with me!  I moved here from Bend, Oregon, which is in the high desert, so I'm not quite used to the temperate rainforest environment.  But I love all the green landscape and the ocean view from my living room.

This will be my 9th year teaching High School Language Arts.  I have a Master's Degree in Education with my Bachelor's Degree in English Literature and Composition.  Reading is my favorite thing to do, but I also love getting out and meeting new people.  I like to hike, play volleyball and tennis, knit, and play board games and card games.  I love anything that requires strategy.  I enjoy puzzles and crosswords, and I think Wii is my favorite invention, ever.  I can't wait to learn how to play Pickle Ball.

I have two older brothers who live in Portland, and my parents, who celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary this summer, live just outside of Bend.  My dog, Biscuit is staying with my mom and dad while I am here.  I miss her very much and you'll probably hear me talk about her often.  But I am excited for all the new adventures I will have here in Alaska.  In fact, I've already had one big adventure -- my friends and I saw a Bear at Herring Cove.  That might not sound like an adventure to you, but for a "city girl" from Oregon, that is a big deal!

I am looking forward to our year together and hope that you are, too. :)
